On the edge of the Cathedral Village, close to downtown, close to out-of-town.

480 square feet (that's 240 per person).
Enough space for things, but not enough for junk.
Enough room to have, but not enough to collect.
Enough places to go, but nowhere to hide.

A room for music, a room for food, a room for creating, a room for sleeping.
A friendly neighbour, a quiet one, a snoopy one, one who maybe deals drugs out of his house.
A white picket fence. (In need of paint.)

A short walk to good friends.
A short walk to a good coffee shop.
A short walk to the library.

Memories packed into every square centimetre, seeping into the insulation in the walls, back out of the electrical sockets like smoke. Thick smoke that I can barely see through. Thick enough to feel on my face when I walk through it.
Maybe almost more like cotton balls. Almost something physical that I could pack into a suitcase and bring with me to the next house.

Some new people will live here soon.
I don't mean to be selfish or ungiving, but they'll have to make their own memories because I'm taking all of mine with me.

Aw. This is so sweet. I can't imagine moving out of your first HOME home. Not just a rental because we did that and partied HARD about getting out of there unscathed. But this. This you can tell was loved and adored. I love that wall paper. And the kitchen. Take your memories and move into your new home and build new memories there, too.

moving can be a sentimental experience. especially for every memory that lived on. yes, you should take all of it, but also make new ones. :)

I'm a little bit sad that you sold your house! It's amazing...I love that house!!! *sigh* I guess life goes on...and you'll have fantastic memories in the new place :)

You're moving? Somewhere far or just somewhere a little larger?

This sounds kind of sad but also very exciting! I'm assuming you'll still be in a house somewhere in Regina? Will you post a photo tour of your new place sometime?

Ah this made me feel a little bit sad because I didn't see the twist coming at the end there. You know the kind of sad you feel when you get nostalgia? That. It's exciting that you're moving house though! New adventure :)

What a sweet little house. A new place can be so exciting, but also bittersweet.

Oh man...this is a lovely expression of how I feel about leaving our basement suite after about five years, too.

It IS so sad! Especially because when we moved in, we gutted the whole thing and redrywalled, repainted, picked out flooring and wallpaper and pictures for the walls...it just feels strange to leave it all behind. I kind of thought we'd maybe live here forever? Haha. But I knew we'd move on someday. Sigh. I am looking forward to making new memories in our next house though. :)

It's true--the making of new ones will definitely be a fun adventure... :)

I love it too!!! It's so cozy. I definitely cried when the for sale sign went up in the front yard...and then again when we started packing...and again when the sold sign went up...
so much crying!

Yep we are... We're just moving across town. This house was never meant to be our forever home, just a starter to get us into the market. BUT I COULD'VE LIVED HERE FOREVER. But Barclay needs his guitar studio and I need an office. So. Life goes on... haha. :)

Suzy Krause said...

Yep! We're not even moving that far away! And I will definitely post pictures of our new place when it's all cozy and liveable. :)

I'll add a 'like' button to my grocery list, asap.

Oh man. Nostalgia. I'm full of it lately. It is exciting, but I can't help but wander from room to room getting all teared up and being all emo about it. Sigh.

Suzy Krause said...

Why thank you! I like it.
And yep, bittersweet is the right word. Exactly.

Suzy Krause said...

It's so sad, isn't it? Have you moved yet? And where are you going???

It's weird to think that someone else is going to live in your house! The house that you created...it's just so YOU, how could anyone else live there? I kind of want to shed a tear myself!! BUT, happy face...this new adventure will be grand! And your new home will be just as fantastic as your old home!

I feel like it would be way worse to hate your house and want to leave as soon as possible, you know? Like sometimes I think its nice to be sad because it meant that you were happy before... those are the best times to let out some tears. Andddd also I am excited to see how you decorate your new place! Post photos soon!

Suzy Krause said...

That's a very, very good point. I'm glad I haven't hated this place for the past four years! And I will absolutely post pictures of the new place ASAP. :)

Aw, exciting times! I still have to look up at the windows of the first flat I owned, every single time I go past it (the second - most recent one - I seem to have emotionally parted with completely). Hope you guys are super happy in your home. x

I was wondering if you were sad leaving your first house, the house you and Barclay spent such time and effort on. I'm sad for you...I love your house too...especially your wallpaper, you may have to put that up again in your new place. As much as I would love to upgrade, the thought of it makes me especially sad. I hate thinking about leaving behind all the work my dad put into our place and the first home my boys ever had....moving is definitely bittersweet!

aw...i haven't driven past the house since we moved out now. i think i'll just want to go in and make sure the new owners are being nice to it...

Suzy Krause said...

all the work is definitely the saddest part. i put the laminate in with marty, and the wallpaper up with ruth. and barclay did the bedroom on his own as a wedding present to me. and we worked together for so many hours that summer to get it all ready in time to move in...

BIG SIGH.

thanks so much andrea!! i am loving the new place already (the reason for being so late to publish/respond to your comment--no internet in the new place! rats!). it's fun decorating it and figuring out the things i want to bring with me from the old place and things that i want to do differently. :)
